What Are Domain Name Servers?

Domain Name servers, abbreviated DNS, or referred to as, NameServers, control where a domain is located. While highlighted elsewhere, Domain Registrars only store the registration of a domain name, and where its nameserver or DNS is located. DNS, however, stores much more then that. DNS control which machine a website is hosted, where its e-mails are sent to, and any possible subdomains. A subdomain is a prefix before a website. For example, http://example.marknetgroup.com – is a subdomain of the website http://www.marknetgroup.com. Now contrary to domains, subdomains do not need to be registered with a domain registrar. They are simply and easily created by the Domain name server.

To be put very simply, Domain Name Servers are roadmaps, traffic signs, pointing your browsers to where you want to go, provided of course, you type the domain correctly. :)
